> What shedix is, which agents it works with, how long machines take, what happens when you close the laptop, what it costs and how it keeps your sign-ins private.

## What is shedix?

A cloud Linux machine for your coding agents, started with one tap. Each machine is real Ubuntu with root and Docker,
with Claude Code, Codex and VS Code in the browser already installed. Your agents keep working on it when your laptop
sleeps or the Wi-Fi drops.

## Which agents does it work with?

Claude Code and Codex come installed and open in terminal tabs on the machine's page. Cursor and VS Code connect over
SSH. Any agent that can run commands can use it: an agent on your laptop drives a shedix machine with `curl` and `ssh`,
following [the guide](/docs/agents).

## Do I need to install anything?

No. The terminal and VS Code run in your browser, and plain SSH works from any computer. Agents use `curl` and `ssh`.
There's an optional command-line tool if you like one.

## How long does a machine take to start?

A new machine is ready in about a minute and a half. Starting a stopped machine again takes under a minute.

## What happens when I close my laptop?

Nothing changes on the machine. It keeps running, and agents started in tmux keep working. Open the machine's page
later, from any device, and pick up where they are.

## Can I use it from my phone?

Yes. The web terminal is built for phones. Claude Code's Remote Control puts the machine in the Claude app, and
Codex can pair with the ChatGPT app (beta). Turn either on from the machine's page.

## Does shedix see my Claude or ChatGPT sign-in?

No. You sign in inside the machine's terminal, through Claude Code's or Codex's own sign-in. The sign-in stays on
that machine, and shedix never reads or stores it. If you copy the machine, the copy (yours alone) has it too.

## What does it cost?

From $0.06/hr for 2 vCPU and 4 GB while the machine runs; stopped machines have no hourly charge. Every size is
on [the pricing page](/pricing). shedix is in a private beta, and nothing is charged yet.

## What happens when a machine sits unused?

After an hour with nobody connected, no agent working and nothing busy, it goes to sleep: it stops, and its files
stay. Start it again whenever you like. Turn on Keep awake for a machine that has to run unattended.

## Are my files kept when a machine stops?

Yes. A stopped or sleeping machine keeps its disk. Files are deleted only when you delete the machine.

## Can machines reach each other?

No. Machines run on an isolated network where traffic between them is dropped. Each one reaches the internet, and
takes SSH from you. [More on security](/security).

## Can I use my own SSH keys?

Yes. Add public keys to your profile, or import the ones on your GitHub account. Every machine you have gets them,
and so does every new one.

## Can I see a web app running on the machine?

Yes. The Ports panel lists what's listening and can make a preview link for a port. Anyone with that link can open
it until you stop sharing. For a private look, forward the port over SSH.

## Can an agent use shedix without my account?

Give it a token. The Copy prompt buttons put a new one in a ready prompt. A token can manage your machines, stops
working a year after it was last used, and every call it makes is listed on your profile, where you can revoke it.

## Where do machines run?

On Google Cloud, in Iowa (us-central1). There are no GPU machines, and no Windows or macOS machines.
