# Close the laptop

> Move a running Claude Code session to a shedix machine and keep it going after the lid shuts. Check on it from your phone.

An agent on your laptop stops when the laptop does: close the lid, lose the Wi-Fi, or let the battery run out, and the
session ends mid-task. On a shedix machine it keeps going, because the machine doesn't sleep when you do.

## How it works

1. Your agent pushes its work to a branch (or copies the folder) and starts a shedix machine.
2. It copies the conversation across and resumes it there, in tmux, with `claude --resume` and Remote Control on. It
becomes a session of its own in the Claude app, separate from the one on your laptop.
3. You sign in to Claude Code on the machine once, in its terminal. The sign-in stays on that machine.
4. Close the laptop. Open the machine's page later, from any browser or your phone, and the session is where the
agent left it. Turn on phone access to continue from the Claude app.

The steps are spelled out in [the agents' guide](/docs/agents#hand-off-a-claude-code-session-so-the-person-can-close-the-laptop),
so your agent can do them for you.

## Good to know

- An open SSH session, a terminal tab, or Claude Code working all count as use, so the machine stays awake while the
agent works. After an hour with nothing going on it goes to sleep, with its files kept.
- A machine's address changes every time it starts; the page always shows the current one.
