# Real Ubuntu

> A clean Ubuntu machine with root and Docker for setups and experiments you'd rather not run on your own computer.

Some work shouldn't happen on the computer that holds your keys, your client code and your accounts: trying an
unfamiliar install script, running a stack of containers, or letting an agent experiment with root. A shedix machine is
a clean Ubuntu 24.04 box with root and Docker, and deleting it deletes everything on it.

## How it works

1. Your agent starts a small machine (an S is $0.06/hr).
2. It does the setup and the experiments there, with sudo and Docker, never on your computer.
3. It shows you what it did and what it found, then deletes the machine unless you want to keep it.

## Good to know

- Each machine is its own virtual machine on an isolated network: it can't reach your other machines, and they can't
  reach it. [More on security](/security).
- Want to see a web app it built? Share a preview link from the Ports panel, or forward the port over SSH.
- Windows users get real Linux without WSL or a local VM.
