Use case
Off your laptop
Run tests, builds and installs on a bigger cloud machine instead of your laptop, started and stopped by your agent.
Long test suites, Docker builds and fresh installs tie up a laptop for minutes at a time. Your agent can send them to a shed machine instead: copy the project over, run the work there, bring back the results and stop the machine.
How it works
- Your agent starts a machine and waits until it's ready (one API call).
- It copies the project with rsync, leaving out
node_modulesand build output. - It installs dependencies and runs the suite over SSH, in tmux for anything long.
- It reports what passed and failed, copies back anything you need, and stops the machine.
A 20-minute run on an L costs about $0.11. A stopped machine costs nothing per hour and keeps its files, so the next run starts warm.
Good to know
- The machine has no GitHub credentials. Copying the working tree with rsync is the simplest way to bring code over.
- Results and reports can also be downloaded from the machine's Files panel.
The prompt
Paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. The copy on the shed page adds the address and a new token for your account.
Run this project's tests on shed instead of this computer. Use this project's shed machine if I have one (start it if it's stopped), or start one for it (size m), copy the project to ~/work as the guide's "Move a project onto it" says, install its dependencies there, run the full test suite and tell me the results. Stop the machine when you're done unless I say otherwise.Copy the prompt
